Magritte. La Ligne de vie

Magritte. La Ligne de vie

Skira 2018
Italian, French and English translations of the catalogue by Scriptum

Through an exceptional selection of works, the Museo d’arte della Svizzera italiana will retrace the entire career of René Magritte: from the beginning to the most famous paintings of maturity. It will thus be possible to understand the origin and sources of inspiration for the painter’s work who impressed the public like no one. The exhibition is related to the conference that Magritte held on November 20, 1938 at the Musée Royal des Beaux-Arts in Antwerp. Entitled La Ligne de vie, the lecture was one of the rare occasions in which the artist expressed himself on his work publicly. Within an hour, through twenty images, Magritte paid homage to André Breton and the Belgian surrealists but above all he delineated the genesis of his art and clarified the fundamentals that enabled him to transform everyday objects into something shocking.
