Palazzo Cipolla in Rome will host from 14 October 2022 to 26 February 2023 the first major Italian exhibition ever dedicated to one of the masters of modern art: Raoul Dufy. A great painter, but also a set designer and draughtsman in France at the beginning of the 20th century, he uses bright colours to escape from the drama of contemporary life, harshly marked by the two world wars. The exhibition follows his artistic path: a follower of the Impressionist tradition that sprouted with Monet in his hometown of Le Havre, he was then a follower of the Fauves, gathered around the figure of Matisse, before finally arriving at the Cézannean austerity with which the forms, the flat areas of bright or even violent colours are independent of the line that barely circumscribes them. Colour becomes a ‘structural element of vision’, indispensable for communicating emotions and moods.
