The VIVE – Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia, under the direction of Edith Gabrielli, presents the exhibition “The last portrait: Mazzini and Lega, parallel stories of the Risorgimento”, open until 8 September at the Sala Zanardelli of the Vittoriano in Rome.
The centerpiece of the exhibition is the painting The Last Moments of Giuseppe Mazzini by Silvestro Lega, an extraordinary work that captures the Father of the Fatherland with intensity and sensitivity in his last hours of life, representing him in a fragile and composed humanity. This masterpiece not only possesses a high artistic value, but also emphasizes the crucial role of painting in the transmission of historical memory.
Currently preserved at the Museum of Art of the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence (USA), the painting portrays one of the most representative icons of the Italian Risorgimento, and finds an ideal location in the Vittoriano, symbol of the Risorgimento and the Republic.
