The exhibition ‘Uzbekistan: Avant-Garde in the Desert’ offers the Italian and international public a glimpse into a little-known page of artistic history of the first half of the 20th century, presenting over 100 works from the museums of Tashkent and Nukus, the latter known as the ‘Louvre of the Desert’.

Curated by Silvia Burini and Giuseppe Barbieri, the exhibition highlights the link between Russian avant-garde and Central Asian art. Among the works on display, many of which leave Uzbekistan for the first time, are four pieces by Kandinsky (two oils and two drawings on paper) and works by artists such as Lentulov, Maškov, Popova, Rodčenko and Rozanova.
