Artemisia and Her Times

Skira 2016
Italian version of the catalogue and
English and Italian translation of the exhibition panels

The exhibition is held in Palazzo Braschi, a magnificent eighteenth-century building in the heart of Renaissance and Baroque Rome. Artemisia Gentileschi was born in Rome in 1593 and died in Naples in 1653: her life, full of dramatic events as well as many scandals, was spent mostly in Florence, Rome and Naples. The exhibition is a journey through the career of this outstanding painter, an effervescent intellectual woman with a very strong character. But it is also an in-depth exploration of the exchanges with and influences of the artists in her circle. This show is the outcome of long preparation and features loans from major museums around the world: from the Metropolitan Museum in New York to the Pitti Palace Palatine Gallery in Florence and the Národní Galerie in Prague.
