“Frida Kahlo. Beyond the Myth’ is the evocative title of the exhibition event dedicated to the celebrated Mexican artist. This important exhibition is the result of six years of research aimed at shedding new light on the controversial, irreverent artist. MUDEC exhibits 100 works, including paintings, drawings and photographs on loan from the Dolores Olmedo Museum in Mexico City and the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection. For the first time ever, this artwork is exhibited side-by-side with previously unreleased archival materials. This fresh take on Frida Kahlo’s artistic legacy is the product of a meticulous study that offers a rich perspective on her life and work. Thanks to this context, the artist is able to move beyond the narrow, cultish view that has, at times, threatened to obscure her work. By going beyond the myth, the viewer is free to focus exclusively on the expressive power of her work, without the risk of being distracted by psychological or biographical factors.
