Emilio Isgrò. The Work of AntsEmilio Isgrò. L’opera delle formiche
English translation of the exhibition catalogue published by Allemandi
Scicli, MACC Museo d’Arte Contemporanea del Carmine, 6 May – 3 November 2025

A new museum of contemporary art in Sicily, set in the Baroque heart of Scicli, a UNESCO World Heritage town in the Val di Noto. Housed in the former Carmine convent, the exhibition curated by Marco Bazzini and Bruno Corà offers a journey through the oeuvre of the Sicilian master, from his works of the 1960s to his recent explorations of Erasure. On this occasion, the exhibition also presents Non uccidere, an installation created by Isgrò with Mario Botta and part of the MAXXI Collection—a joint project conceived to celebrate the founding values that inspired the Italian Constitution. Emilio Isgrò reinterprets biblical tablets of the Ten Commandments, leaving visible only the fifth: “Thou shalt not kill.” These tablets are set within a circular wooden space designed by Mario Botta, where art and architecture merge into a unique resonance..
