Leonora Carrington
Italian translation of the exhibition catalogue published by Electa
Milano, Palazzo Reale, 20 September 2025 – 11 January 2026
Palazzo Reale celebrates Leonora Carrington (1917–2011), one of the most visionary artists of the 20th century. Born in England and living between Europe and Mexico, Carrington developed a unique artistic language: symbolic, dreamlike, and deeply personal. A truly multifaceted artist, she made imagination an act of resistance and freedom her manifesto.
From a rebellious childhood to her Parisian years, from the trauma of war to her arrival in Mexico, the exhibition explores universal themes such as feminism, ecology, forgotten myths, magic, resilience and inner freedom.
You will encounter hybrid creatures, enchanted worlds, esoteric symbolism, and the kitchen reimagined as a space of female power. It is a powerful journey through art, identity and imagination — a unique opportunity to delve into the universe of a woman who turned her life into a work of art.
For the first time in Italy, over 60 works trace an extraordinary journey through rebellion, exile and creative rebirth. The exhibition is curated by Tere Arcq and Carlos Martín.
