The Museo Vincenzo Vela (Ligornetto, Switzerland) opens its autumn exhibition season with an extensive exhibition dedicated to the painter Spartaco Vela (1854-1895), the only son of the famous Ticino sculptor and Sabina Dragoni. The event opens on 9 November 2024 and will end on 27 April 2025.

Beyond readings that confine him to the role of a simple ‘son of art’, the exhibition on the first floor of the Museum invites the rediscovery of an artist with a solid education, active in the artistic and cultural context of his time, of which he was a sensitive interpreter.

Curated by Antonia Nessi, with the collaboration of Anita Guglielmetti, the exhibition presents a wide selection of pictorial and graphic works, enriched by loans from public and private collections. In addition to the artistic aspect, the exhibition highlights the social commitment of Spartaco Vela, who opposed the railway on Monte Generoso and founded the Ligornetto kindergarten. The retrospective is accompanied by cultural events, guided tours and a catalogue full of authoritative insights.
